I heard this performed live with a string band and have been longing, impatiently, since 2011 for Eska's album, now due on the 7th May this year. This rehearsal is lacking the same vibrancy and doesn't resonate so well in me but moments of it make me remember. I hope Eska's studio version is more like what I heard before, with the violins and cello.

Esperanza Spalding is a woman who uses her position and power as a role model to encourage greatness through high aspirations. I think this video is fantastic. It recognises gaps in school education without being bitter or patronising. Education continues at home and can really be inspired by musical instruments.

Well, this track does both of those things, all the while feeling sexy as hell. That's just Vikter Duplaix for you though. Lush rhodes, a thumping 4x4 house beat, great varied percussion, and Vikter Duplaix's sumptuous voice makes for a pretty perfect track. Love this!

The legendary Gilles Peterson dscribes this band as the best rhythm section in hip hop since The Roots. That is BIG. He's not wrong either. In fact, BBNG may even trump The Roots for their versatility (even if they still have a couple of decades worth of work to catch up on). This video really encapsulates why they have both hiphop and jazz heads on high alert, really setting the blog world on fire.

What starts off as a moody classical build up crashes into an almost heavy metal style beat before settling into familiar hiphop territory. It then rollercoaster's into a jazzy, druum'n'bass-esque section laden with rhodes before picking up entirely. The latter half is a bad sound quality remake of West and Jay Z's 'N*ggas in Paris'.

These guys are playing at the WorldWide Awards this year but tickets have sold out. You can, however, still catch them at the WorldWide Awards Warm Up for just £10 from 9pm-3am, with other acts such as 2morrows Victory + fLako + DJ's: Gilles Peterson + If an Dafydd + Lefto. It's gonna be a long one but if you can hack it for 6 hours it'll be a good!

Diggs Duke - Black Gold

I listened to the first track of this and loved it instantly. A muted yet jazzy, drum n bass roller with neo-soul elements splashed all over it, 'Something In My Soul' is a real winner. It keeps the head nodding at a keen pace all the while touching something in the soul. The next track, 'Holding On', was destined to be good in my books; I haven't heard a single song yet entitled 'Hold(ing) On' which doesn't sound so good to my ears, all the while giving me the strength to do as the title says. I was, of course, not disappointed. It's much more fun and funky than the first and equally, if not more unique with fresh, real, live sounding percussion. The sax in all the tracks is glorious to hear, none more so than in 'The Cure'. Despite all the tracks being under 2 minutes, bar the last, it's still a great listen. The title track, 'Black Gold', is a real B-Boy's track with hard breaks cut up to perfection. The synthesis of the electronic with the live instrumentation is near-perfect.

Common - Celebrate

You know, if this had come out a (more than?) few years ago I probably wouldn't have been so hyped to hear this. As hiphop mutated into the grotesque thing we know it as today, classic sounding cuts like this become scarcer than ever. That's not necessarily a bad thing as the reaction to grotesque hiphop has taken it to grand, exploratory, heights. Check Shabazz Palaces for example. I digress (as per usual).

This track by Common is best described in one word; warm. Now, don't take that to be a bad thing. His new album, The Dreamer The Believer, has the whole blog world hyped and I must admit, it's a great album. It doesn't quite scale the heights of Like Water For Chocolate but given the context this was made in, makes for a really quite special effort from Common. This track is one of the lighter, more palatable tracks from the album. The bassline and the rapper's inimitable smooth voice make this track a warm hug for cold ears in a chilly December in London. It's got that great old skool vibe, which is both refreshing and nostalgic at the same time. The production, handled by No ID, is flawless and sounds like something Naughty By Nature of old would go crazy over. Enjoy this feel-good track x

James Blake - A Case Of You

We went to see James Blake a few weeks ago at the HMV Forum and it was one of the most memorable gigs I've ever been to. The performance was stellar but I will never forget the amount of noise and the sheer bass that rumbled through my every fibre for hours. That being said, he also performed this song which, contrary to what you might think was also drowned in bass. He completely subverted the audience's expectations. Rather than take a hyper song and play it acoustically live, he took an acoustic song and beefed it up like you wouldn't believe. Anyway, back to this!

I LOVE this track. It's haunting and almost unintelligible at times but that somehow adds to its charm. One thing it really confirms, though, is Joni Mitchell's divine ability to write a song, though Blake swaps her guitar for his piano. Although this song showcases James Blake's versatility away from the dubstep that he's known for, it also serves to highlight how brilliant Joni Mitchell was. Obtaining -
Another little soulful gem. Never heard of the singer or the producer before but don't let that take anything away from a really nice track. A humming bassline with some subtle clicks and hi hat snares over classic pads and rhodes make for a beat that you just need to sit back and chill to. Onto the vocalist, Soia. I can't think of much to say. While she's not unique or ground-breaking in any way, it doesn't mean that she doesn't have a great voice. It's the combination of track and vocal together which makes this a little bit special.

Tao Says -
This one is a little bit different. The beat demands a head nod with a bit of a gangsta lean while the vocals demand a smoky, underground, spoken word atmosphere. Clap your hands, nod your head, close your eyes. It works. Enjoy.

Quadron - Ex-Factor (Lauryn Hill Cover)

I literally lit up when I saw the title of this. I was a little anxious too because I'd hate for anyone to butcher it. Ex-Factor truly has to be one of my favourite tracks ever and Quadron have a great habit of performing beautiful live music. The result is very nice. Coco has such a strong and lovely voice while the boys sound out a simple, subtle, ballad. I kinda wish the hand percussionist had something just a little stronger than his fist for a kick though. Still, well worth enjoying this amateurish yet utterly charming video. Enjoy x

Okay, stop EVERYTHING and just listen to this. This 3-track single by Troy Gunner, on my favourite deep dubstep producer's label has just blown me away. I, quite literally, laughed-out-loud when I heard the first track, 'Fools Gold', drop. All three tracks are absolutely ridiculous though. More atmosphere and space than our solar system can handle with an infectious guitar-synth lick. You'll hear it and you'll know.

The second track, 'Heads In Hands' is a much safer atmospheric track designed for those evenings of pure, deep thought, while the final track, 'Dancing In The Leaves' is more of a roller fitting in anywhere from club to lounge to home. Can't wait to get my hands on this release, which came out on December 5th. Go!

Jesse Boykins III - Light To Dark

Youch, I didn't want to upload another totally depressing track/video but it seems as though this Christmas season isn't the best for a lot of artists! This track comes from Boykins' latest EP Way of the Wayfarer, which, it must be said, is a real killer for a free release. Light to Dark is one of my favourites from it and I hope you can see why. The slow, building, pressure of the track is pushed constantly by the hauntingly repetitive backing vocals and some clever production techniques. In the video, it seems as though Boykins wants us to really take in the mise-en-scene in order to explore what he's really about during those dark days. See what you guys think. I really enjoyed the visuals to go with the track too (hit the youtube link to find out more about the director). Lyrics below.

I remember when Penny first posted up music by this young trio and thinking that they were just an Odd Future tribute act who did a really good job. Turns out these guys aren't just jazz-cum-hiphop heads but do a variety of their own music too. It's really ear-friendly for those of you who feel alienated by jazz's aggression and often loose structure. The trio successfully merge hiphop and jazz in a way that Robert Glasper has done but, as mentioned, in a much more digestible way. They're a simple three-piece of keys, bass, and drums. Most depressing and heart-wrenching video of the year? Probably. Just in time for the holiday season Mar Variations releases this miserable gem upon the world of parenthood-gone-null. Most of us will recognize the music by Aphex Twin, which was recently sampled by Kanye West on Blame Game, with Mar and Szjerdene offering breathy vocals over the top. The result is a track which might not otherwise grab your attention, especially if you're already familiar with the original, but with the stark, crisp visuals to arrest your attention too, it makes for a real winner. Check it.

I love these tracks, don't get me wrong, but check out the artwork on this bad boy! So simple but brilliant for a reason that I can't quite put my finger on. It just works for my eyes and my mind. On to the music - I've been a massive fan of Ackryte since Penny brought me to his work and since then I've kept a keen eye on everything he works on. A prolific producer, he makes jazzy and spaced out beat with some story woven into their waves. This EP sees him brought together with another like-minded producer, originally from Jamaica, by the name of Prof.logic. The resulting EP is . . . well give it a listen, hip hop beats at their most progressive without becoming alienating. You've gotta check out track 3, 'RealTingDis' because . . . this thing's real! It works for me.

Okay, I know it's been like 2 weeks since I last posted but work is seriously taking it out of me and Penny's been grinding on at work too. There is no-one else! I wasn't really looking to post anything tonight because I feel sleepy as hell but this golden track by Innobushu absolutely killed it. A distinct funky vibe combined with so many complex layers which work so well in a chaotically beautiful harmony. The bassline kicks real nice too. I haven't even listened to any of his other tracks yet but if they're all as good as this you know I'll be posting more!

Whoa. It's been a turbulent year for me. Sex, drugs, rock and roll - they're all affecting, trying to destroy my very being, without me necessarily having to be the subject in each instance, . I'm still here though; life's gonna have to keep working until it breaks me down. As a result I've been very moved by the one thing I've loved my whole life, sound-tracking while I look for sounds. Music, of course. Through the darkest days and those shiny new ones, music followed me and guided me through so I never had to feel alone when it seemed like I only had myself. That's the facts, jack. Unless I go deaf, I'll always have my music.

This track is one that has deeply affected me today, albeit a couple of months late. Heroin has deeply and perhaps permanently altered my life, though I've never taken it. It has, however, inspired some of the greatest modern art. That's what this video is about. It is a hard topic to grasp. The portrayal of the child's innocence is something to behold, fantastically acted throughout. It's, also, a difficult video to watch so be advised of strong drug use. That being said, it's probably one of the best music videos I've ever seen. Everything from the symbolism to the emotions it portrays is perfect, despite, I suspect, having a low budget for the shoot. It displays the gritty realism of the ghetto and the high life - the drug is everywhere in society. On first watch it almost seems to glorify the use of heroin in music production, especially when combined with the lyrics, but a deeper look reveals otherwise. The box represents the boy's dreams which are left open at the end.

All this and I haven't even mentioned the music! I can let you guys be the judge but I loved this. The rhodes are on point and the bass is flawless. Anthony Mills vocals are lush and the lyrics are thought provoking. I'm ending this post here because I could go on for a good thousand words if I don't stop now. Hope you guys enjoyed this as much as I did, without the pain I did. The definition of bitter-sweet.

A cover from February 2010 doing a new round. I'm jumping on the round-about. Glasper's "Joga" is an exhilarating, very nearly airborne instrumental. He couldn't get headier than Björk with classical jazz but my sensibilities prefer this slow twinkling and live rendition. I find it more emotive with the clean melancholia of a piano for Winter and breathing in snowy air. No, not more emotive, there's just a lot less desperation in the composition than Björk's. A melancholy man and a desperate woman; very poignant.

I absolutely love Mara Hruby's debut EP From Her Eyes. She performs some classics by the likes of Mos Def, Bob Marley, Stereolab, and more (download it below for free using the Bandcamp link). This is probably my favourite track from the EP, covering Van Hunt's track 'Character'. The video, too, is nicely shot and, coupled with the lyrics, provoked thought. Mara Hruby has this to say:

My relationship with Blu Mar Ten's music is really quite unsteady. Since their arrival on the dnb scene they've transformed their sound to one which is highly polished and really quite contemporary. Always on the cutting edge of electronic music, these guys continue to evolve. Unfortunately, I love the golden oldie atmospheric style as opposed the slightly raw, gritty sound of today's generation. The past 10 years or so of work they've put out really hasn't been to my taste. That being said there are some real gems on their new album Love is the Devil. This is a 15 minute sampler of the album and is worth a little listen. Go out and support these guys if you dig it!

Common is blowing up! Dude is incredible with his work rate and consistent quality. Blue Sky is a highly stylistic video and, for the first time in a while, a video which I actually enjoy by the man. Not to say his former videos have been bad but some of them have left me wanting. This video is throught-provoking, inspirational, and ultimately very "Common". Plus we get to see the pretty singer on the hook (still uncredited).

I'm actually more excited to hear Let's Move. It's not from his new album but produced by DSteele from . . .I don't know when but it's from his forthcoming album. Either way, it's a dope track that could have easily belonged on Common's Go as it reminds me a little of Testify - straight storied hip hop. The graphic novel-esque video is different and cool to watch too. Enjoy.

DAMN! I dare you not to like this! Just look at that lineup! I love when corporations try to reach out to the music scene to create something real. Hyundai have done it here but other notables include V-Tech, Red Bull, Mountain Dew, to name just a few. It's also worth noting the absolute diversity of Mark Ronson who can create such a range of music, from pop anthems to raw funk. Dude is a genius. Cheeky of them to credit Mos Def on here though - I didn't hear him!

La petite mort, French for "the little death", is an idiom and metaphor for orgasm.

Pretty little song leaked off of Meshell's forthcoming album, Weather, available from 8 November. "Petite Mort" is delicate but still kicks out with the methodical drum and bass lines. It's achingly lovely with a distinctive feel of Sebastian Tellier's, "Look". - Wow, I've never seen the video for this before! - Meshell Ndegeocello and Sebastian Tellier are both sexually playful in their music, lulling out really seductive lyrics too.

Desta Haile, an established singer/songwriter, born in Bangkok, has worked with some big names already as well as leading her own band, The Elements. Music is at an all time high for me. There is a steady but not overwhelming flow of quality music speeding out. This one came out of nowhere for me and I'm so glad it did. The Roots are a band which continue to push the envelopes and boundaries. Comparing each of their albums, one can see how much they've matured and grown, particularly with the last two. For the first time ever, the only credible hip hop band in history are, perhaps surprisingly, releasing their first ever concept album. The first official leak dropped today and it's an absolute winner which I could listen to all night long.

The album, entitled undun, is a novel-cum-album in that a narrative is designed to be told despite deliberately only being 10 tracks long. ?uestlove explains that this is because it helps tell the narrative, rather than make it sound like a convoluted album collection of songs or mixtape in style. The band describe it as "an existential re-telling of the short life of one Redford Stephens (1974-1999)," utilizing a reverse narrative arc, beginning with Redford's death and moving backwards. This is track two from the album,which is due to be released on December 6th.

The track itself is that rare and wonderful mixture of production and rapper values having equal measure, which is something that is completely missing in hiphop today. From the intro alone you can hear the dream-like, existential, sound. Flickering at first and moving into something more solid, lyrically, into the life of a gangster gone wrong. The first verse, performed by Big K.R.I.T., is very narrative focussed and part of a context. Black Thought's verse is very much like his stage name; black thoughts. Given my situation, I cannot help but listen hard at what he says and, perhaps unfortunately, relate it back to my completely-not-gangster self. The latter half of the track is devoted completely to the band, and the track as a whole is a musical masterpiece. That reverberated (echoed) fingersnap-turned-snare at the beginning of the track hits a huge, fresh, empty, hole in my heart. Download here.

Not often has a song struck such a beautiful chord within me. So beautiful and so sad. The lyrics are accurate to the most painful degree yet the melancholy is wonderful. It's funny how a song about infidelity and insecurity can be so gracefully elegant.

The cover is performed by a rising producer, who largely deals with covers and remakes and is extremely talented at what he does. His name is Ahmed Sirour and he has never had any formal instrument training, which is pretty impressive. Cleveland Jones is another rising star with a lovely, almost feminine, voice. He only learned the lyrics 10 minutes prior to recording this song, such is Little Dragon's natural, catchy, beauty and Jones' undeniable talent.

I'm hoping most of our readers have already seen the original Little Dragon video that accompanied their song - if not you're in for a treat. It could easily be watched with no sound and still display its message with such sharpness (but seriously, use volume). The video, much like the song itself, is agonizingly relevant and makes me both smile and cry at the same time. Smile for its cuteness and childlike simplicity and cry for its ultimate message, which is actually unclear but its insinuation of sadness is much to bear. View and listen to the original below.

We saw Chris Turner doing backing for Bilal at the Jazz Cafe earlier this year and I made a note of his name but never got round to looking him up at home. Or maybe I did and what I heard then just filtered through one ear and out of the other for being good but not great. I can't remember which but having gone over some BET recordings from February, this is something different. His voice has more variation and rang much in the fashion of Bilal who he's taken inspiration from. Copy cat or lessons well shared, you decide, but to me Chris Turner sounds great today, far more soulful. Could be down to the song by Sly and the Family Stone. Excuse the lack of audio midway through this video. It only lasts about twenty seconds and is still definitely worth the listen.

Makoto - Room Enough (feat. Cleveland Watkiss)

Wow. Simply wow. Not only has Makoto displayed shown how much he has matured since being LTJ Bukem's Japanese arm but Cleveland Watkiss' voice sounds more beautiful than it ever has. The pianos in this are so simple yet so beautifully spaced out, which, when combined with the classic movie-style violins make for a dreamy piece of music. The slow atmospheric build up crashes brilliantly into a warm bassline and Watkiss' Nutella voice. Despite being a veteran on the circuit who teaches everyone from adults to children locally in London, he continues to evolve. The crashes before the beat drops add even more drama to the piece. Personally, I think this track could have gone without the brilliant, authenticated, drums as I found myself beatboxing unnecessarily to its natural pulse. Even with their inclusion, however, this track makes for a great lounge track.To call it a lounge track is a little disrespectful given the values you can hear in it but it fits really well. Watkiss' jazz singing, also, evokes an emotional swing that no instrument can provide. Unfortunately, this is just a clip - The track continues with some jazz piano that Robert Glasper would be proud of and some faint horns, which pipe soulfully on - Go and download Makoto's Souled Out album NOW to hear this in full and 14 other diverse tracks.

EDIT: Added trivia! This was initially a dnb track but Makoto decided he didn't like it so he made it into the downtempo jam we have before us. Wicked!

DJ Shadow - Scale it Back feat. Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon

This track is reminiscent of TLC's album, CrazySexyCool. Yukimi shares the same fluish vocals and rolling voice pattern as T-Boz over the deeper sections and DJ Shadow creates the iconic mid-tempo, slightly ironic sounding track with characteristic CSC snare kicks. Goes to show the versatility Yukimi has beyond Little Dragon's electronic trademark.

DJ Shadow's new album, The Less You Know, The Better, from which "Scale it Back" comes towards the end, is itself very broad in terms of genre as well as original and sampled vocals from Yukimi, to Talib Kweli and De La Soul's Posdunos, to 40s folk singer Susan Reed. I heard mostly tracks that I loved, some that had less impact and only a couple that I just didn't like. As DJ Shadow says himself, the album ranges through "moments of real intense darkness and then, also, really intense beauty". Personally I prefer the latter and those tracks, like "Scale it Back", that border beautiful.

Man I'm glad I found Soulection. I've been following Joekay's show since day one and it always delivers fantastic mix. It has been a while since we last heard from Jose James, hasn't it? Dude's back with a lovely little track, which through its easy 2 step gospel-y beat, makes for a very listenable experience. The beat wouldn't sound so out of place on a D'Angelo album. Jose James' voice is as lush as ever and if I'm listening right, I think his voice has a little more range now. The band is pretty all-star too - Pino Palladino on bass, Richard Spaven on drums - ya gotta love it!

Stones Throw producer Oh No remixes it to add a 90's hip hop feel, reinforcing the snare and kick with some beef while adding some truly lovely rhodes to move the track along.

I'm not usually the one who posts Sesame Street on the blog but I came across this one today and I found it a combination of funny, sad, and dramatically accurate. Keeping in mind that disco was essentially the first real form of clubbing as we know it, I can relate to poor old Cookie Monster. He lost his cookie at (or because of?) the disco. Simple as that really. You do, of course, have to use your imagination with cookie as metaphor. The last minute of the track really made me uncomfortable as, despite the fact that he's a muppet, he seems to be in a real state of panic. That sense of utter disorientation.

This is enticing with every wave of breathy outpouring. There are so many components and changes across twelve minutes, stretching beyond a pulse, or the Asian wind instruments, a plasmic feminine voice and frenetic night crickets outside those four walls. It's humbling music.

I'm really not feeling the production on this track but Jay spits fire, as per usual, over a minimalist, bass-centred, Young Guru beat. Jay still got it despite a weak chorus from Prodigy of Mobb Deep. His verse isn't bad though. Gotta say though, love the single artwork!

"suite, in music, a group of self-contained instrumental movements of varying character, usually in the same key. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the period of its greatest importance, the suite consisted principally of dance movements".

The greatest musical tribute for a late black artist is now to rework a suite out of their back catalogue of dance beats. Violinist, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson composed Suite for Ma Dukes on behalf of J Dilla, but Gil Scott-Heron's music has always been original blues. Shaolin Jazz, the collaboration between DJ 2-Tone Jones and artist/jazz cover art promoter Gerald Watson, has undone a classical trend, instead opting to amp up a 3-track of jazz instrumentals with rap dialogue.

In April this year, Shaolin Jazz put out The 37th Chamber debut. It's classical jazz/rap alchemy, combining fundamental jazz pieces and hardcore Wu-Tang Clan. Black artists are turning to a misconceived pasty medium to demonstrate respect for their greats and yet the product is not struggling with issues of identity. A cohesive social premise for The Gil Scott Suite is well conceived through "self-contained instrumental movements of varying character": the suite comes off really good.

A Mr. and Mrs. Smith-esque video. Watch it, you'll see what I mean. Great track from his second album How Do You Do, out now on Universal. I read a pretentious blog post from another music blog who didn't like the album because it sounded too pop-y and because it was now signed to a major label. Personally, yes it does sound a little bit pop-y and the band sound like they're missing some but on the whole this is another fun and solid album.

I don't think I ever really posted my thoughts on veteran 9th Wonder's début album. It's good. It's really good. That being said, it's not great and it's not a game changer. I will say that it is one of the best hip hop albums of recent years but that doesn't say much on what I think of the scene at the moment. It's chock full of guest stars and the production is lush and sample heavy. It's almost like an early Kanye album but without Kanye on vocals. Anyway, this is one of my favourite tracks. I know, it's not special. It's real nice to listen to though and easy to nod your head to. That's all we really need right?

The production is totally on point with a classic sample innovatively used with some great chopped beats. It adds an cold yet intense sexual feel to the whole track. Layer LP's, aka Lisa Preston's, vocals on top and you get a real hot winner. Gotta love how it almost gets 2step at the end too proving its real versatility as a banger too.

Seems like I should have posted this a few days ago when it was still nice and hot in London. The sun is still out today but it's f*cking cold. Still, I don't mind so much because a fun song like this just works. Perfect pick me up for any cold day.

I've always been a fan of Erro, aka Eric Roberson, since I heard his voice on 'Rock Wit' You' (prod by Jazzy Jeff - what a bassline!) but he never got that real breakout that some of his contemporaries had. It seems as though it doesn't matter how talented neo-soul singers are, they will almost always bubble under the surface of stardom. As long as they keep making good music, I won't complain!

Let me listen again for Erykah Badu and Shafiq Husayn's additional vocals in this one. They're there but barely audible like random people in the audience singing along; I spotted Badu in the crowd early on. This musical hang session is so much better than if it had been a fully orchestrated super collaboration with Erykah and Shafiq each getting their fair cut of vocal time. Though I've heard it on Thundercat's 'The Golden Age of Apocalypse', "Daylight Live" is a completely new and inclusive experience, even watching on my laptop, costumes and all, like 'Glee on Tour'.

Finally, another new track from Common's forthcoming album The Dreamer, The Believer. It's another banger! An infectious sample from Electric Light Orchestra's 'Mr. Blue Sky' used creatively to taken on a slightly hopeless feel, in comparison, to coincide with Common's lyrics. Top-notch, bass-heavy, production by No ID. That's where Kanye takes his influence from - fact!

Common really is blowing up recently, really coming into prominence as his career progresses. This is one of the many reasons why you cannot help but respect him. Not only is his music relatively consistent but surprisingly listenable over a period of time. Combined with the fact that he is one of the most positive cats around, it's nice to see his unflinching hard work pay off. He's a New York Times Bestseller for his book One Day It'll All Make Sense, is a star on a new TV series Hell on Wheels and at the same time still releasing quality music. Respect sir! Miguel Migs - Tonight (feat Mechell Ndegeocello)

I've seen Miguel Migs name floating around quite a bit recently but haven't had the chance to really check what he's all about. As soon as I saw he'd collaborated with Ndegeocello I had to check it out. Considering how I expected it to sound this was a really refreshing surprise. This is a warm, summery, dance track which hits a Saturday evening just right. Meshell's sultry voice transcends genres just like Migs' production values. I haven't heard any more from Migs but I'm sure I will. His third album Outside the Skyline came out on September 20th.

So I've stuck with this boring old black template for quite a while now and I think it's time to switch things up a bit. Especially considering all the work the good folks at Google are doing with blogger - about f*cking time too! If it didn't come any sooner I would have switched to Tumblr by now. There are still a few niggling problems which I need to work through with regards to the layout and I think it will mean a change in the way we post content too. It will be much more picture heavy but I don't think it'll be a bad thing at all.

With the 6th year anniversary of his death approaching early 2012, one of hiphop’s greatest producer/artist J Dilla gears up for a new LP in honor of his hometown entitled “Rebirth of Detroit“ which is expected to feature guest spots by The Pharcyde, Ghostface Killah, Busta Rhymes, Common, & A Tribe Called Quest just to name a few.

Just a clip but you can hear how dope it is. The beat is classic J Dilla and that first verse is immense - what a flow! Looking forward to the project, the names on there sound like perfection in an album.

Oh Makoto, your tracks rule. Not everytime but most of the time. This is one of his most diverse moments, straying away from traditional drum n bass and stepping up the tempo to make a super 4x4 dance banger with soulful vocals by the talented Paul Randolph. Can't help but boogie a little. Not sure if I'm feeling the karaoke words on the screen though. I have no idea where Lapalux crawled out from but he's wicked. The way he remixes Fink's brilliant 'Perfect Darkness' with a splash of auto-tune, some heavy bass and a great dubstep beat is pretty immense. It builds up just perfectly into enveloping electronic emotion, so stick with it until at least the two minute mark (watch the waveform...)

There's another remix by Andreya Triana, who's long been a favourite of ours here. Sticking much more to the recognizable Fink sound, she grinds out a mellow affair in heart-melting breathy vocals. It's another slow builder but it's really worth the chilled out release. Enjoy.

Oh and don't forget the original if you haven't heard it, it's a moody work of art which somehow manages to incorporate some East Indian/carnival influence into it. Brilliance. Check it here.

The piano work doesn't excite me so much in this because it just sounds so 'done-before'. That being said, this is a really nice track and I can't get enough of Sampha's unique voice. There is still some clever production work here with the piano and the layering of his voice, as samples, and some other little FX which makes it a little more unique.
